A quieter week with Nakina still brought steady progress — gentle training, calm socialization, and time to reset before the next steps.

🐾 Quiet Week

I came down with the flu this week, so not much happened — thankfully, Guy stepped in and handled all things Nakina.

Training

Nakina now responds to both hand signals and verbal cues for “look” and “sit.” The lure has been removed from “down,” but she doesn’t yet respond consistently to the verbal cue alone and still needs the hand signal. She continues to make steady progress learning to walk nicely on leash.

Socialization

On Saturday, we spent some time in the RV, and this time she was very comfortable. Afterward, we made a quick stop at PetSmart.

On Sunday, we flew back to Florida from Connecticut.

On Sunday, we worked briefly on elevator exposure. She walked in and out comfortably while the doors remained open.

The rest of the week was quiet while I recovered.

What's Next

  • Sit — lengthen duration; more locations and distractions
  • Look — more locations and distractions
  • Down — begin separating the hand signal and verbal cue
  • Grooming — begin desensitizing to the Dremel
  • Continue socialization with elementary school children
  • Continue elevator desensitization

Hopefully, I’ll feel better soon so we can get back on track.
