Nakina’s focus and training are coming together beautifully as we prepare for her very first camping adventure.
🐾 Hard Working Girl
Nakina and I had a wonderful week together. With Guy traveling for work, it was just the two of us, and her Belgian nature really showed. She checked in often, always making sure I was okay.
Training
Nakina’s loose leash walking is coming together beautifully. We currently have a walk that goes two houses down and back, and the entire time she remains focused and walking calmly by my side. Over the coming week, we’ll try extending that walk to the corner of the street, about six houses away.
Looking at everything across all three of her classes, the only remaining skills we need to work on are “give me paw” and “find the treat.” We’re also doing more intentional focus work, simply reinforcing her choice to check in and stay engaged with me.”
Her “wait” is now solid, so at home we’re shifting that skill to calmly getting in and out of the car crate when cued.
Socialization
I still haven’t gotten back to elevator work yet. Since one of our classes is canceled this week due to the trainer being on vacation, I’m hoping we can fit that back in.
What's Next
- Walking — calm leash walking on the left and sitting at stops for longer distances
- Settle — continue removing the lure
- Recall — continue on leash in more distracting environments
- Trick — continue on leash in more distracting environments
- Car/Crate — calm, cued entry and exit from the car crate
- Grooming — continue desensitizing to the Dremel
- Continue elevator desensitization
Today we’re taking Nakina on her first camping trip. Here’s hoping she loves it.
