Nakina’s training continues to progress while her Belgian nature shines — close, attentive, and always checking in as our bond deepens.
🐾 Cuddler
Nakina is becoming even more of a Belgian — always checking in, wanting to be close, and curling up with a paw on my foot when she sleeps. I love it.
Training
Nakina’s loose leash walking is coming together incredibly well. We’re now walking about ten houses down and back, which is even farther than I had hoped to reach this week. Over the coming week, we’ll try extending our walks to include our smaller block.
I haven’t done much work on the bonus tricks from her classes. Right now, I’m honestly not all that interested in tricks, and that feels perfectly fine.
We’ve begun transferring her “wait” cue to getting out of the car crate. Progress has been slow, but steady, and I’m hopeful we’ll have it solid by the end of the week.
Socialization
I still haven’t returned to elevator work. It’s been so cold this week that I simply didn’t feel like heading out — we’ll get back to it soon.
What's Next
- Walking — calm leash walking on the left and sitting at stops for longer distances
- Settle — continue removing the lure
- Recall — continue on leash in more distracting environments
- Car/Crate — calm, cued entry and exit from the car crate
- Grooming — continue desensitizing to the Dremel
- Continue elevator desensitization
Today we’re taking Nakina to watch a lure coursing event. I don’t think we’ll have her run yet, but I’m curious to see how interested she is.
