Lots of progress this week! Website, supplies, reading, and a puppy?
🐾 Could it be? A puppy born already?
My careful search may have led me to the little girl I’ve been dreaming of. And like my husband says, sometimes the stars just align.
Puppy News
Well, one of the breeders I had on my list let me know that she had puppies born early this week. So I quickly did the breeder research on all the breeders on my list. I had 4 breeders on my highly recommended list. And this breeder was one of them. She said there were several that she believes are grey. The litter was large ... 3 males and 7 females. Turned out that she believes 2 of the females are grey, but was much more confident with one of them. I sent her a deposit for that girl on Thursday. I am so excited ... I am so nervous ... I am so scared. All of this is happening much quicker than I thought it would.
About The Breeder
I really like this breeder. Not only did she come recommended from a lot of her previous puppy owners, but she is clearly breeding for temperament, health and structure. Grey is just a bonus. Her pedigree includes beautiful greys on both sides, with strong health and temperament behind her. The sire is a spectacular Canadian dog, and the dam is a gorgeous working girl. The breeder is also very responsive. I like to stay in touch with the breeders I get puppies from so that was very important to me. She created a FaceBook page for those interested in the litter. It's nice to see frequent photos of the litter and other information posted. Fingers crossed that she ends up being a grey ... hard to tell for sure at this point.
Preparing Supplies
Since it's been 3 years since we have had a dog, we had given away all our supplies to a rescue. And, of course, things change and improve. So I started my research for the "best of" for all the supplies I think I'll need.
Since our puppy won’t be ready to come home until late November, I’ve only ordered one item so far: an AirTag holder for her collar. It’s the kind that gets engraved, so I ordered early. I'll let you know what I think once I see it.
Logo and Website Updates
I created a fresh new logo for Chien Noir. I love it because it's a nod to all of our Belgians ... it has some black for our past Groenendaels; it has some mahogany for our past Tervs; and it has some grey for our future puppy. Making good progress on the website. I'm hoping to have it done by the end of this week.
Researching Facilities
I’ve confirmed that the vet we previously used is still at the same facility, and I’ve also identified a possible boarding facility to visit. In addition, I’ve selected two certified trainers I’d like to meet with. If I like both, I’ll likely enroll her in both programs to give her extra socialization opportunities.
What's Next
- Finish the website
- Visit the boarding facility
- Schedule time with both trainers
- Set up a health check with the vet
- Continue researching supplies
- Schedule a trip to meet the puppy at around 5 weeks of age
Each step brings me closer to the dream of welcoming this little girl home — and I look forward to sharing the journey with you.
